I've got an automatic v6 freelander xreg, whenever I put the gear on Drive and pressed on the acceleration it just accelerate upto 30mph. and if I pressed on the acceleration more the its just the RPM that goes up but not the speed. The speed is constant at around 30mph. What do you think is wrong with the car? and what is the best solution to fix it?

The Land Rover Freelander from 2002 to the present has the Jatco JF506E transmission, also used in late model X-Type Jaguars, VW Golf, and the Mazda MPV and it is well known that transmission has a high rate of failure, both internal failure and electrical failure. The electrical solenoids are the most common cause of the Jatco JF506E transmission failure and the cause of the Jatco JF506E transmission internal failure is overheating due to its small fluid reservoirs and by using the wrong transmission fluid. Only the Land Rover ATF 402 (STC50531) or the equivalent Texaco N402 is recommended in the Freelander's Jatco JF506E transmission. The incidents of low mileage failure for that transmission is quite common. Your problem may only be a faulty pressure-control solenoid. If it is then that will just be a minor expense, the price of the solenoid plus diagnostics and labor. Here is a link which can help you with the electrical checks:

If the electrical checks are okay and the problem is internal then be prepared to open your wallet. Good luck with your tranny.

Could be anything - first thing to check is that the gearbox selector is working, the transmission oil level is correct & the oil's clean.

A company called Ashcroft specialises in LR auto box faults - also just found this quote;

JATCO advises owners not to carry out AUTOMATIC transmission fluid changes hemselves because it's difficult to ensure the correct amount is added (the gearbox needs to be run to a specific temperature - This requires diagnostic equipment) and probably they will use the wrong oil, e.g. Land Rover Discovery ATF is different from a Land Rover Freelander, and Jaguar X-Type (Jatco) uses different ATF to a Land Rover Freelander (Jatco).

First check the level in the transmission fluid. If this is correct you have a gearbox/torque converter problem. You will have to replace the gearbox or get it overhauled. This is not going to be cheap.

Then the Dicovery(poor mans Range rover) Not good.

Then yours(Idiot's dicovery)

Even taking out the K series lump won't save it!

it seems you have a serious transmission problem, check all the fluid levels of your car especially the trans fluid , if everything looks normal

i think this problem goes beyond your knowledge, you may look for professional help. Any warning lights? How old is the car?

are you on cruise mode?? if there is in your vehicle... it must be something with the gear box... because the pistons are working but the gears are like no no i wana stay 30mph... have it inspected... the best way.... why are the experts here apart from eating your money?:P because it has something to to with the brain of the car... so have it inspected... must be the oil or something like that that is preventing it from 'shifting'...
