If you mean inserting the key in the lock and turning, either the teeth on the key or the lock tumblers are worn. Try "jiggleing" the key next try,.

I think the key uses a different section of the hard part of the key, or your door lock is worn. either way sounds like wear.

Mentioning the FOB makes me think of the push button device for locking and unlocking the car. If that's what you're talking about then if it locks but doesn't unlock then the FOB is dirty and the buttons need to be cleaned on the inside. If you know how to do that then go ahead. If not - then don't attempt to clean it.

If you're talking about the KEY (not the fob) then it's worn. Sometimes it's easier to lock and unlock a worn door key barrel. Sometimes it's easier to turn the ignition barrel with a worn key but be difficult to lock or unlock the door with the key.

I'd recommend going to a dealership (your make of vehicle) and paying for them to make a new key based on the VIN number. My Taco had after market keys that were badly worn. Made new keys and things were better. But I still have some difficulty unlocking the driver side door with the key from time to time. Squirting a little Graphite Grease into the key lock helps.

With freezing weather, WD-40 (the W and the D stand for Water Displacement) can prevent freezing of locks.

I'm guessing you have worn key barrels and tumblers. Recommend freeing them up using Graphite Grease or WD-40. Graphite over WD is advised when possible. Oils can migrate onto electric switches and cause problems. Either live with it or have new key locks installed and keyed to match your keys.
