Low miles, the hood needs done, dent and touch up on some areas which will cost me $800 from a shop. Or should I trade in for a suv with a good paint job and is bigger? What is the difference between the trail blazer with the 4.2 where as my jimmy has a 4.3? Mine is smaller and a little bigger

It doesnt matter what they tell you. In reality, "They" are not going to give you more than a couple hundred dollars for your jimmy in that condition as a trade in on a used car. So if you want a newer suv. You should go buy what you want for best deal you can make. Using cash and buying from a private party will save you $. Get a bank loan if you dont have the cash on hand. Then after you have another suv to drive , Then sell your jimmy for at least $1000 or more. Low miles ? I would go advertise it for 1500 at least. Depends on the miles etc of jimmy how much $ you can get. But you should sell it fast and get at least $1000 very easily. Not the $200 the dealer will give you. You dont need the 200 to buy a newer suv. So buy your new one first, then sell.the jimmy. That way you can take your time and search for a great SUV from a private seller and get a much better deal. and not give away your jimmy for nothing. It is more work, but not a lot. Start looking at used SUV for sale buy owner , Most all will take less than they are asking for. Search for one that has been well cared for. Maybe even garage kept.

If yours is in good mechanical condition it would be worth paying the $800. There is very little difference between the 4.2 and 4.3 engine.

I wouldn't put much money into a 17 year old Jimmy.

" What is the difference between the trail blazer with the 4.2 where as my jimmy has a 4.3? "

Basically everything. The 4.2L is an all-aluminium DOHC, 24 valve Inline 6. It's much more modern and much more powerful, 270-290 HP depending on the year. The 4.3L is basically a 350 with two cylinders lopped off, it's been around since the mid 80's. It's a pushrod engine with 2 valves per cylinder. iron block and aluminum heads, by 2000 it made about 190 HP in the Jimmy/Blazer.

" Mine is smaller and a little bigger"

Seems that those things would be mutually exclusive.....

An investment is something that grows in value. A paint job on an old car isn't an investment.

$800 on a 2000 gmc jimy slt? Gt out of here.

the 4.2 I6 was used from 02-05 it made more power then the 4.3 due to its 10:1 compression ratio the 4.3 was a slow low compression engine numbers are talking about how many liters engine is

Waste of money. A shiny turd is still a turd. Find a decent used Toyota 4Runner, PreRunner or RAV4. You won't be sorry.
