I have a 98' Grand Am Gt. It got hot on me and just quit running, after about an hour it would start again. But now it got to the point where it wont start. It will crank but wont fire. Ive checked the fuel filter, fuel pump, and everything fuel wise. So I know its just not getting fire. I checked the spark plugs and there good. I got a new coil pack and it still wont start. So I am thinking it is the Ignition module. What do you think?

I think you had better go to a mechanic before you start replacing the complete vehicle one part at a time guessing!

What was the fuel pressure reading if you "know" it's OK?

The CEL will be on and codes will be stored in the computer if the ignition module is bad.

The crankshaft and camshaft sensors will cause a no spark condition just as well as the ignition module.

If there is no CEL lit, try banging on the gas tank while someone else cranks the motor over. You may have a bad fuel pump and they don't set codes.

Did you pull the plug wires off the coils and look for corrosion/rust? You may have the motor flooded by now. If you hold the gas pedal to the floor the system stops the fuel pump to help get rid of excess fuel.

You should stop trash talking people who are trying to help you. You neglected to mention you are driving a car with a quad 4 engine, which has no spark plug wires. This car also came with a 3.4 v6 which has s/plug wires. People are not mind readers. Yes replace the ign module, and also check the coil housing very carefully. If you see black spider wed marks on the plastic of the housing, replace it, because they are carbon tracks. The high voltage secondary is shorting out inside the housing, and this is what probably took out the module. If I was you, I would gap a new set of spark plugs as well, as these contribute to a high resistance in the secondary ignition. Plugs are cheap. Also, apply some dialectric to both ends of the sparkplug boots, before installation.

You stated that it got overheated before you had a no-start condition. You should start by checking for a blown head gasket.

As far as the module goes it needs the crank and cam sensor signals for it to work. Generally if the module goes you will have no spark and no injector pulse.

relies upon on no be counted in case you have been: a) donning a pacemaker, b) suffered yet another heart situation c) have been nicely insulated or grounded d) touching electro-mechanical factors or digital. a) pacemakers might nicely be completely broken by capacity of extreme voltage - moreso by capacity of digital ones b) hearts weakened by capacity of ailment might nicely be interrupted or maybe stopped - moreso by capacity of digital ones c) nicely insulated - in basic terms approximately no longer something; nicely grounded - in basic terms approximately the completed rigidity, neither - mid-factor d) previous factors structures function at approximately 20kV. A mildly unsightly involuntary 'pulsing' of the muscle groups. oftentimes humorous as quickly as you have permit pass... ...digital structures function at lots bigger voltages (and better present day); now and lower back in a procedures greater suitable than 50kV. The mildly unsightly pulsing (of the standards device) will become "very painful." while you're retaining the HT lead once you get the marvel, you would be no longer able to launch it because of the fact the muscle groups settlement - you will likely get very much greatly surprised till somebody else facilitates you out. No-one to help, no existence expectancy...present day ignition structures can kill. As you stated ignition module, you will possibly desire to easily examine the digital structures bit.

I think you should get an obdii code scanner and get the error code to see what is ready wrong with the car instead of wasting money and guessing.
