The starter solenoid has two coils inside--a "pull in" coil and a "hold in" coil. If you have a weak battery or corroded connections, the pull in coil overcome some of the spring resistance to pull the starter drive partially into position. But if there's not enough power to fully energize the hold in coil, it'll bounce back out. What you get is almost a machine gun sound as the starter drive lever bounces in and out.

So you either have a bad starter, weak battery, or bad power or ground connections. Those are your three possibilities. If you clean the power and ground cables and still have the problem, they I suggest you revisit the starter and battery

clicking could indicate either a bad connection at the starter or a bad starter depending on what the click sounds like. a hard click suggests the starter is trying but binding. a lighter click suggests a bad connection meaning non sufficient voltage reaching the starter. this is often corroded cables.

First check your cables at the battery to see if making a good conection. Check your starter relay to see if ok.Sounds like you are not getting enough power to your starter.
