Question:
Is this a car motor problem?
2007-07-11 21:18:55 UTC
I just got a new motor put in my car. I drove it for two weeks with no problem. Yesterday, I was on the highway and the car start jerking, oil light came on, rpm kept flying up and down, and the battery light came on. The car stop when I slowed down. It took minutes to crank it back up. It will drive about a half a mile then sart doing all those thing over. Anyone have an idea whats going on?

Make model and yr would be nice.

Your computer may have gotten fried. Or you could be over heating.

The Ignition control module could be bad. They tend to let you go for a while and then when they heat up shut your car down...when they are going bad. but I think your having computer issues. If all the fluids checked out ok and nothing seems be be over heating then I would go to a junk yard and pull out a computer from the same type vehicle...What ever it is and plug it in and see if it cures your problem.

It's the cheapest way to figure out if the computer is bad. When the computer goes bad it usually doesn't show a code to tell you it's bad.

But you could be talking about a 1969 Chevelle and it doesn't have a computer. So we don't really know do we?

do you have enough oil in the car? or maybe it is an electrical problem. if u just got a new motor there shouldnt be a problem with that and if there is u better get ur money back

if there are spark plugs, behind your motor,my first guess would be the valve cover gaskets or maybe somebody over-filled the power steering reservoir.i don't know your model of car,so i just have to guess.my third guess, would be,someone spilled motor, while filling the crankcrase.thank you!

Sounds like a blown head gasket to me. Unless the car is pretty new, I would reccomend getting rid of it, and buying a new one. Head gasket replacements aren't cheap at the repair shop, their insanely hard to do at home, and if you warped the heads due to overheating, it'll cost even more. Sorry for the bad news.

Edit: sorry, misread the question. still sounds like the same problem to me, but forget the junking it part. If it's a fresh motor, the installer or manufacturer is responsible for repairs(if it's still under warranty).

Call a tow truck and have it towed to the shop where motor was installed. Let them pay the bill.

Sound like the distributor cap is bad or plug wires, or distributor has turned a little because it wasn't tightened enough. May being firing when pistons or at top dead center.

Maybe losing oil pressure - Not common on rebuilds that are quality built, but I would take it back to the installer.

Sounds a bit like an alternator problem.

definatly sounds like an electrical issue bring it back to where you had the engine put in they may have not gotten something correctly tightened down.

My car was doing that - I found out it was a crankshaft sensor:
