Hi all, i was applying my final coat of paint to my wheels and waited for it to get tacky before i applied lacquer, when i added the second thin layer of lacquer i noticed the paint underneath seem to start wrinkling at some parts, and even look like its dripping underneath the coat of lacquer at others. Should i have waited for the paint to have fully dried? I'm really confused. I didn't add much lacquer, and the previous layers of paint before the final top coat where fully dry, about a week drying. Any light on the problem would be really appreciated.

I sprayed a van 40 years ago with coachpaint instead of usual cellulose, light spray all over, still tacky, 2nd coat heavy, Crinkle finish all over, left it a week to dry before sanding down, didn`t use sealer just resprayed top coat. Worse than the 1st time.

So strip back to bare metal !!!

You can not put lacquer paint over enamel paint. What you describe is exactly what happens.

What you must do now is to remove all of the paint, right down to bare metal, and start over.

Do you mean clear when you say lacquer?
