Whats the best way to rid car's radiator of rust?

It's not over heating or anything, i just was concerned when I checked it today and there was alot of rust in the water. What chemicals should and can I use without messing up the radiator?

the radiator needs to be pulled and cleaned properly at a radiator shop, it needs to be rodded out to insure all cooling tubes are open, then you need to pull the thermostat out and disconnect the heater hoses, then flush the system out with fresh water only, be sure to back flush the engine and heater core, be warned after cleaning the system you may find leaks that you did not have before, (the dirt and rust will stop small leaks) any system flush that has an acid base to it, I advise not to use, you will not be able to remove all the dirt and rust in the system and what stays in the engine block, radiator and heater core, will acummulate the acid that is in most system flush products and will then start a corrosive reaction to the softer metals it comes in contact with. the rusting of a system are usually caused by molding sand left in the engine block during manufacturing, improper water and antifreeze mixture, always use a 50/50 mixture, to much antifreeze will cause an overheating problem in the summer and in cold weather it may jell, you may want to check your freeze plugs for signs of leakage also. after you have the system cleaned out and are installing the antifreeze, add a bottle of rust inhibator to the system, it will slow down or stop the rusting

Go to a parts store and get a bottle of prestone radiator flush, and follow the directions on the back. This is what I do and I have been working on cars for almost 32 years. Be sure to put at least a gallon of coolant back in and top it off with water. But pure anti freez/coolant would be better and you won't have to flush it again for quite awhile.

Well I would say take it out and have them rod it out. It may not be over heating now but you can bet that some of them cores are stoppted up with rust.

Then refill the rad with DISTALLED water and antifreeze

This way it will not rust.

Also be shure to flush out the block as just cleaning the rad will help but not stop the rusting.

You can get a rad flush from the auto parts store.

I do not recamend just flushing the rad out, have it really cleaned and do the job right.

#1never put just plain water in a radiator. they make flush kits for rust . sold at most auto parts stores.

Try one milk botle directly in the radiator; use the normally during a day.

After this, change all water in the radiator. Believe, its work.
