What is the advantage of adding freon versus flushing all freon and replacing it from your car airconditioner?

It's obviously cheaper to add freon to your cars air conditioner than having it "flushed" and replacing it with all new stuff. A can of typical freon is $25 at your local auto store. I'm wondering why someone whould choose to have the whole car flushed out over just adding freon. Thanks.

If it's a freon system, it's at least 14 yrs old, if not more. Have them replace the accumulator, then have the system flushed, leak tested, and refilled with fresh refrigerant. I'd also like to know where this auto store is. Freon is closer to $60/lb and you have to be EPA certified to buy it. You might be thinking of r-134a. Don't mix the two up - you'll burn out your AC compressor real quick - freon systems use mineral oil and r-134a uses PAG.

the explanation your a/c unit is blowing heat air is which you at the instant are not vacuming out the air out of the a/c strains in the previous you shoot the freon decrease back into the equipment. An a/c equipment won't artwork precise with air interior the strains. that's the reason your guage is performing screwy once you enhance the throttle. in case you comprehend the place the leak is then see in the experience that your mechanic will get rid of the freon that's on your equipment and flow forward and alter out the extreme section line and dryer your self. based upon how the line is routed you're able to do the replace your self and then have your mechanic vac the air out of the equipment and precise gasoline the equipment for you. a minimum of this way you would be saving the exertions expenses and aspects markup for putting the line of for you, and you will in all probability purchase the climate at any sturdy aspects shop. whilst your at it go searching something of the equipment strains and fittings, in case you notice a greasy spot with a gaggle of airborne dirt and dust clinging on it thats a physically powerful sign that the a/c unit is leaking there too. sturdy success!!

The biggest advantage is your AC will then work because the system take s certain amount of refrigerant BY WEIGHT, not fl.oz.

Putting any refrigerant in after the initial charge by weight is complete guess work because the pressure fluctuates with outside temps and the passenger compartment temps.

It really is the only way to do it correctly.

After 8 years or so, I think it's worth it to have all the old refrigerant removed to get all the moisture and any debris out. Then refill with new refrigerant. Many shops do that anyways in order to test the system for leaks.
