All Transit keys are chipped, it's just that the red one is the master key for programming the transponders on the black slave keys to accept an overwrite code. The black keys will then operate the PATS (immobiliser) system normally.

NEVER use the red key for daily use.

I,m afraid it's the Ford dealer for some time on the computer for your van. They can then reprogram the ECU to accept the code from a new master key.

Sorry but it is really the only option.

Hi there.

No cheap way around this. The dealers are not being straight with you, if you have the registration documents and the original key they can order a new key from Ford anyway, without seeing the van. You just need to persuade them you are honest.

Good luck, Steve.

im afraid the van needs to be plugged in to a diagnostics machine after a new key is supplied, this is why the dealer needs the van to cure the problem, this sounds like bad news. Its infact not, there are many (independent) garages and diagnostic experts (like Myself) around the country who have mobile machines (like my delphi ds100e look it up on the internet if you dont know what it is) they can come out to your van and plug it in with their computer

all you need to get off the dealer (if you can find a mobile diagnostic expert) is the new chip - they should be able to supply this with a few details off the van (i.e. the vin number)

im not sure but the AA might be able to help you with this - if your a member its worth a try

Hope this helps

You will need to get the AA or who ever to put the van on a lorry and take it to a Ford main dealer. They will sort the problem out once they have seen your V5 etc so they know it is really your van. The good news is if you have fully comprehensive insurance they will pay for it to be done.

sounds to me as though you could be trying to nick it?.. the red master key is for emergencys and coding of replacement keys, you should have a normal black key already with the van. if not then you have to have the vehicle re keyed and coded by fords no other way..

find a written off one in a salvage yard. (eg www.silverlakeautoparts.co.uk- they are good). you need a ecu and master key. swap ecu, and ignition key. salvaged key will start van (you can just swap ecu, and not ignition, but you will need to hold the salvage key against the dash for the immobiliser, while starting with your current key. this is the cheap option. or just get a new master key from ford. probably the salvage option is cheaper.

Pull the left hand set of wires out of the immobilisor box.
mark the spark

you will have to rewire the engine stop / fuel cut off

also possibly the engine starter motor

as it is a diesel it is possible to bypass it

petrol engines almost imposable to bypass
