Question:
2007 Kia Spectra Blower Issue?

I'm not very car savvy so I'm not sure if I'm using the right terms and such. However, my wife's kia has had an issue with the blower motor working. I've located the cause for the issue but I have no idea where to start to fix it. There's a plug under the passenger side dash and all of the wires going into the plug have turned brown where they loop up into the plug. If I wiggle this plug just right the blower starts again. I need to replace this somehow and I guess I'm asking where to start.

Thanks!

Get with your Kia dealer part's department and buy a blower motor with a blower motor connector repair kit. The kit come with the repair instruction, very easy to follow. The high resistance of the blower motor was the reason for the discoloration of the wires. If you don't replace the motor now, it'll burn the wires again, the motor for sure will fail soon and quit.

Mark the wire locations of the connector, do not place it at the wrong cavity. If you do then you just create another electrical problem on the circuit. Do one wire at a time if you must to prevent the mix up.

You should take a look at the blower motor resistor and its connector and see if the resistor and the connector have the same problem like the blower motor and its connector. If the wires and the connector show sign of burnt or discoloration: Replace the resistor and buy the connector repair kit. I've included the resistor picture below. Its location is not that far away from the blower motor.

If the wires are "burnt" looking it's because the blower motor has been drawing too many amps and needs replacing. If the harness connector that plugs into the blower motor is still usable I'd try to tighten the spade connectors inside the harness plastic connector to make sure they make good contact on the new motor. If the connector is bad make a diagram showing where each colored wire plug into the blower motor and then cut the old plastic harness connector off and crimp new wire connectors on the wiring harness and plug them into the motor individually in the proper positions.

Go to KIA parts department and see what option they suggest. Perhaps you can buy just the plug.
