I have a 1993 mazda mx3 precidia V6

i dont want to turbo it because it would cost too much..
im looking for cheap mods that would make it run better and faster without killing the gas milage

my friend suggested a cold air intake and a straight pipe exhaust

Get it well tuned to Factory specs is your first best bet. A K+N air filter in your original housing is your cheapest 5 HP gain. Aftermarket intakes often get hotter air as the folks who design these cars are not stupid and generally pick up air in the coolest spot available.

If you could fabricate a functional "Ram Air" system, you could pick up some free HP.

You can lose the catalytic converter and muffler if you want to be an Air and Noise polluting ******. A well designed free-flow muffler will give you a few HP. There may be a performance computer chip available that might help... Or not, according to who installs it.

Whatever mods you do will shorten the life of your car.... And that might be a good thing.

Air filter, Exhaust, plugs and leads then a good tune up, may give it a bit more life. To get better power to weight ratio ,lose the subs and amps, pull the carpets up, get rid of any rubbish, loose the 200 piece el cheapo toolbox, remove all the built up mud from the inner guards and empty the ashtray

New car? this engine has no aftermarket parts anymore. best you can get is a DIY cold air intake, and a makeshift exhaust. not worth the time for 20hp max. Your car was stock 135 hp. so figure it loses 30 hp to the wheels, and then we deduct hp cuz of age. so another 20hp. your car is putting 85 hp to the ground AT BEST. and even less torque

You should do simple bolt ons..Like intake..NGK spark plugs..NGK spark plug wires..after market headers..i sugget dc..pretty cheap..do an oil change and use purple crown oil and use H&K oil filter..if you wana do alil mor you can get an aftermarket intake manifold. straight pipe is ok.because i have a straight pipe in my car too. but your car would sound WAY better if you put a cat back exhaust on it.
