Nappa, Advance Auto and Auto Zone sell * 7/8 inch slotted oxygen sensor sockets that allow the insulated wired to slide through when loosening and installing. Most have only a 3/8 drive in the end so make sure you have a 3/8 - 1/2 adapter so you can use a braker bar to loosten the oxygen sensor. Carefully, wipe some *Never Seize on the new oxygen sensor treads before installing. *Make sure you buy an oxygen sensor with the OEM (original equipment manufactures) plug-in socket to make you life a lot easier.

Go to the auto parts store and ask to see the O₂ sensor. Then match the socket or wrench to it. I've done it before.

Often if they look up the sensor, the description tells what size it is.

I only use oxygen sensor sockets to install them. I usually chop the wires off and impact them out if I have room or use a extra long 7/8" boxed end wrench.

The O2 sensor socket is a standard size socket for most cars in the US market. It has a cutout to fit the sensor wire. The size is 22 mm.

Go to an auto parts store and by a special 02 sensor socket. They have a groove in them for the sensor wire. I believe that are 22mm.

There is more than one size but most (probably 90%) are 7/8" or 22mm - same thing

I actually prefer to use a wrench if I can slip the connector through the boxed end and get enough room to swing it. The split sensor sockets have a habit of twisting off and ruining the flats on the sensor hex drive surface.

Wow interesting answers This seems like an extremely logical question given these facts: most bolts on a vehicle are NOT standard in any way standard. And if you are novice mechanic, why would you expect the O2 sensors to be standard. . For example the strut mount bolts for a 2008 Sportage are different for front and back. And they are not the same size as on other vehicles. I changed the sway bar links on the Sportage, the aftermarket ones use 18mm on the front and back, and the OEM ones are 19mm and 17mm.

Anyway, just putting in my opinion.

As for the question, the size for OEM sensors is standard. Setting aside say an very old car or something exotic.
