Would a bad tensioner and upper timing chain cause stalling?

And rough idling? My car stalls at red lights, and i know i need to replace the tensioner and timing chain because it makes a LOUD rattling in the engine. Are those problems related?

it could.

but take it to a mechanic. one of the easiest things to do is diagnose noises. usually just by standing next to a vehicle and listening w/a trained ear. or using a stethoscope or section of hose if needed.

prolly get away with getting an estimate. they hear the noise, tell you what it is, give you an estimate. weather or not you take them up on the repair, is up to you. it's a way of finding out what maybe wrong w/o actually paying for diagnostics. *possibly*. worth a try.

When the timing chain jumps or fails the symptoms will be severe, not just the engine running crummy. When you get the chain and tensioner replaced, swap the spark plugs too as they're probably not firing very well right now. It's conterproductive to think the chain will hold up long after it's making noise.

not realted, but if chain falls off be ready for bent valves
