I purchased an extended warranty for my car on Aug 9, 2013 with the assumption of no mechanical issues. I had my Range Rover for 6 months already. No issues whatsoever. Later on that evening I was on the highway and I was flagged down by a driver, and he told me that smoke was coming out of my vehicle. I pulled over and I had white smoke came out my exhaust pipes.I pulled over,, no leakes and checked oil. Oil was fine. Got to work safely and got it towed that day. While I was in the tow truck I called and told them what happened. Its just a rare coincidence, that I purchased it that day and this happened.

So Monday August 12, I spoke to the land Rover dealer and they say my transmission is failed and my turbocharger has faliled also. Some other issues. Extended warranty states any prior issues, they wouldnt't cover which I understand. But if you didn't know there was issues, its not your fault, thats my opinion. Land rover stated that my transmission failed 1800miles ago. But on my end my check light didn't come on. And I was driving my vehicle with no issues. I have gas recipts to prove I was still driving. Just to add, In apr I hadgotten a diagnostic done on my vehicle with no issues.

So now the extended warranty company is giving me hell. Assuming that I knew all these issues was at fault. Which I didn't. These vehicles are sealed, you won't see anything until it fails completly. By the way, its a company thru USAA. I had no intentions of this vehicle failing nor no its condition. But my warranty states, after purchase. It starts from there. So they are giving me hell about this bill and the repair. Land Rover is trying there best to fix this issue. So am I right or wrong? I understand where there coming from, but if the driver doesn't see or feel any issues while driving, they shouldnt be deemed on that. What are your reponses?

Unfortunately most extended warrenty companies to have a period that you have to wait before you can put in a claim. Not that you did it but some would buy coverage to help pay a large problem they knew about prior to getting the coverage. If the transmission was done 1800 miles ago why isnt it covered by who did it ? Call the factory and see if you can get some help from them. Sometimes they will help out if your car is recently out of factory warrenty.

The third party extended warranty companies are very hard to deal with.

I had done the extended warranty on my car through them on my own: stopmyrepairbills.com or something like that, the one that had tons of commercials about it.....

They want records of maintenance showing regular checks and oil changes for everything on time too.

There is no way they can tell how many miles ago something has failed, that is an opinion and not a factual statement, which can be argued.

Best course of action is to get another opinion on the vehicle.

Also, white smoke indicates you are burning coolant which could be from a blown head gasket or the turbo cracked open allowing coolant into the intake portion.

Good luck :)

As a mechanic I have had many run ins with non factory extended warranty companies.I stopped accepting vehicles that have them unless it was a good customer. They seem to try to be like health insurance companies. It is ALWAYS a fight from start to end and even worse the car my end up sitting on my lot for months.Your problem with the trans is horrible because they will want the mechanic to remove and disassemble the unit so the warranty guy--who is no mechanic no matter what certifications he has,ASE is not a mechanic except on paper--can tell the shop what they will pay and disregard my labor rate and even if the trans needs rebuilt, they will only pay for what broke. They are hard to beat in court because they know how it is done.I tell all people that own shops to stay away from them and shop owners tell me the same thing. You have to be a real *** to get anything done.
