my dad and uncle are mechanics and my car also been to 3 different shops. yet no one has a clue what is wrong with it. it a 1994 buick park ave. when driving the car under a half tank and it cold outside and i go to use the power windows the whole car shuts down. it wont start back up. power lock wont work they make a weird sound when you try to lock the car up. but the trunk button works. we have replace the fuel pump, starter, battery, the keys cause the key is coded. the tps. we also replace the cylinder that read the key when you start it. we also override the security system. but yet nothing seems to work. the car also sometime start back up on it own and will run for a while with nothing being done to it. if someone can give us idea on what we should try next will be greatly appreciated. one again im driving the the car under a half tank and it cold out and go use the power window the car shut down. power lock wont work or the windows but the trunk button does. we been working on this car for a year now and we need help!

bad ground

the wires that go from the battery to the ground and maybe even the positive might have contact drop issues

both of thos wires only cost about 10 a piece, and are fairly easy to change

if the connections inside the wire where you cant see are corroded or intermittantly losing contact

you might also have fuse block issues or computer, but I would check this first

one cause it is cheap, but have had the same issue on same year GM chevy

it sounds like a electrical problem somewhere between the engine and the gas tank. Electrical problems do strange things when a wire is shorted and touches another.

I'd start by running a voltage drop test through the wiring harness to find if some of the wires have chaffed and are touching each other. If the window sire is touching the fuel pump power wire it will cause the pump to go out. that's just a random guess tho.

the only thing i can think of and this may be no help at all is either, you have a electrical short in the harness, or a bad ecm, or the anti-theft system is finally screwed, you may need buick to reprogram the ecm and antitheft. I do know that if you change the battery on those cars with certian anti theft systems without a battery maintainer hooked to them it will screw with the anti theft system and it won't work right at all. but i am guessing here. sorry i can't be of more help

Not an uncommon problem on this vehicle. See post below for the fix. You might want to suggest to your dad and uncles that it's much cheaper to place a call to a tech support line than to keep replacing parts. In this case the tech support call would have cost them less than $50 and they would have been directed right to the problem.

Maybe you should have traded it in as a clunker when you had the chance...Try not rolling the window down when its cold and dont go below half a tank..Look on the bright side,at least you can crawl into the trunk and wait it out when it happens..Hey,your cars not named Christine is it?If so watch out for the feeling safe in the trunk thing

Have you tried to hooking it up to a computer? It might be a fuse.
