I have a 2.7 2000 dodge intrepid and it's idling rough. 155K miles on it plugs and wires never been changed (i know i know) I'm wondering are they fairly easy to get to and change myself (hubby actually) or should i just take it somewhere? Diagnosis at Autoplace was misfire in cylinder 3...

That means that either you have a fouled plug or a bad ignition wire. The ignition wiring is fairly obvious. It comes from a small box and each wire leads to a plug in the side of the engine.

If you don't know how to recignize this perhaps you should have someone do it for you. It is not difficult but it does require some special tools to remove the plugs.

You should take it somewhere. You probably will need to change the spark plugs, wires, and distributor cap. All are relatively easy but if you've never done it before, it is best to get it changed by a professional ASE certified mechanic. If you accidently put the wrong wire in the wrong spot or cross wires, you will cause several hundred dollars worth of damage to your car. Next time have someone who knows how to do this to show you and you will be able to do it yourself. It is not worth the $100-150 that you will pay a professional to mess it up yourself.

right this is what i might do in accordance with my adventure. First, do no longer do the "gas gadget tuneup", a minimum of no longer till lots later in case you relatively want it which I doubt. a stable Gates serpentine belt may cost approximately $25, however the broking quotes $50 in all threat that's reasonable. Why do no longer you besides mght pass the belt substitute for now and allow your husband set up in simple terms the serpentine belt which he can do while he gets time. be certain he makes a diagram of ways the belt snakes by each and every of the pulleys so as that he will bear in mind the thank you to place the hot one on after he's taking the previous one off. All he desires is a a million/2 inchchronic socket handle or breaker bar to launch the stress on the tensioner pulley. It has a a million/2 inch sq. power insert interior the realm of it.

If you don't know where the plugs and wires are, you should take it to someone who does.
