on a small hill, the engine starts overheating. These Warning lights turn on: Engine overheating + shut engine down. I shut engine down and 5 seconds later i start up the engine again. The lights turn off and the temperature gauge goes back fast from 240 degrees to 130. Then every thing is normal. The overheating has happened a few times in the past 2-3 days. I think it is electrical or sensor problem. Is this correct? I have anti freeze to max line on the tank. What is the problem?

If your fan is working then I would say that it is your thermostats. You should be able to here your fan come on. Try and blow out your air to air and radiator with a blow gun, from the engine side out. I just remebered one that I had that we put thermostats in and blew out the radiator, put a head on because the injector cups were leaking, and still overheated, and found the air compressor was aerating and getting air pockets in it, like the other guy said.

worked on more of them than i can count, your truck uses a fanstat air opperated fan system. it as well gets a signal from a switch in the water mainifold area. your opperating thermostat temp is 210 degree's within 5 degree's of this your fan should engage and start cooling. a test of your components is needed to verify they are working correctly. the question is has your truck been given a real good service check over? 240 is shut down all right, now if say you are getting airation to the coolant due to a leak that fools the temp gauge because air heats faster than water, are you loosing significant power right away on a slight hill, this would indicate either lack of fuel rail presure or very bad air flow to the engine, a weak or damaged turbo can cause this as well. your turbo isnt really working much on level ground maintaining a steady speed but hard on a grade. does your engine cool down well if you are just idleing, I mean if you let it idle till the fan kicks in does it drop the temp gauge down pretty quickly, if so youe engine thermostat is working and your radiator flow is good.I hope some of this helped

your egr needs to be replaced, or bypassed with ugly fix chip. The problem is your egr is telling your ecm to cut or reduce turbo boost. This causes no power on any hill or uphill incline, which in turn causes your engine to overheat because it is working too hard
