did my tires cause my car to do this?

I have these they came stock with car, http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Hankook&tireModel=Optimo+H426

now ive been in three different kinds of cars with these and all drove terrible. I have a brand new civic and yesterday when i went to brake suddenly the car literally just went gliding through a intersection squeeling very loud as if i was gliding on ice. In 31 years ive never seen that especially on a new car i know people with civics and never had braking issues. Is it possible its these garbage tires i researched them and they have horrible reviews for every catergory in tires so im hoping it is them and not my brand new cars braking system. any help appretiated or somene who has had those tires that can chime in to.

You car will have anti lock brakes fitted as standard. These can only work as well as the adhesion they get from the road surface - for example at one extreme on sheet ice they will not stop you any better than no abs.

It is very unlikely that your tyres are sub-standard.

It is possible that the grip available on that part of the road surface was reduced - perhaps by spilled oil, worn out surface or rainfall after a long dry spell.

If the cars ABS was faulty it should make the warning light come on and stay on on the dash when the engine is running - if that is not the case then the ABS system should be fine.

Very unlikely to be the tyres - more likely the nut behind the steering wheel.

Possible causes:

1. Driving too fast for conditions

2. Mechanical failure

Since you are presumably still driving that rules out #2.

If you were going so fast and braking so late that you locked up the brakes then you were travelling too fast for conditions and no tire would have changed that.

Hankook are a leading manufacturer, known for their high-end products. Apart from anything else their tires are now OE on the Merc C-class and Mercedes, of all people, will have taken a lot of persuading to move away from the brands they've always used.

Check your pressures - I take it you are using the correct pressures for your car and not employing that stupid habit of going by what's impressed on the sidewall.

I would suspect that something has spilled on the pavement, causing your tires to skid.

Go to an empty parking lot and test your brakes.
