i recently asked a question regarding why my odometer flicks on and off sometimes. it might come on and stay, or it might not come on for a while. also, some of my door lights and radio lights do not illuminate. im almost certain that this problem relates to the fuses, but i was told i need a cluster replacement. so now, what is a cluster replacement and how much does it cost? can i go to autozone/ advanced auto parts and get it? how much to install labor-wise, as i will not be doing this myself. its for a 2001 f150 extended cab with 83,000 miles and the 5.4l v8

CLUSTER refers to the main group of gages in your dash. They are actually all one piece (even if it doesn't look that way from the outside) and have a electrical board backing. This will probably be a dealer or salvage item.

I agree that the odometer issue might be in the instrument cluster, but there is no way to be certain without making sure that you have the proper power and ground supplies to the cluster while it is not working. If they are there, then the cluster will have to be replaced. If the cluster has to be replaced, and if your truck has anti-theft, and if the anti-theft is controlled by the IPC, then the replacement will also need to be programmed. If I were you, I would take it to a reputable shop for a second opinion. As for the cost, if the problem is not the cluster, then the cost is too high, as once it has been installed, it cannot be returned...

Hi

The cluster is basically the speedo, rev counter, and all the other dials etc inside the dash. It takes forever and costs a bomb. You should shop around for the best price you can find.
