I took the cap off and the actual ratator has no cracks on the top. The cap seemed to be tight when I took it off but, I don't know how to tell if the spring or cap is bad.
Any mechanics or words of wisdom?

ok now that you have had all these people tell you something, Now lission to a mechanic
#1 take the cap to an autozone and have it tested.
#2 Have the rad pressure tested at any rad shop and thy can check for a leak.
Here is how it works. Since you suspect the cap, what a pressure check does is force air into the rad to simulate the cap. If there is a pinhole leak anywhere this check will show where the leak is.
It could be nothing more then a loose hose clamp that needs tighting. It will detect even the smallest leak. Might be a bad hose.
Hope this helps in some way

The radiator cap can be bad. The car may have too much pressure due to a variety of problems. The quickest and easiest thing to try is to get a new radiator cap and hope that this was it. You can have the current cap checked on a pressure tester. See if your local auto parts store will pressure test the cap (Autozone or Advance Auto).
Now, this is all predicated on the fact that your car is not really overheating. If it is overheating then it is probably something else besides the cap.

sometimes the rubber ring dry rots and will kinda seep. get a new after market cap only like 10 bucks at auto zone. (Be sure the pressure rating is the same) Good luck

seen it before, just change the cap. They're not but a few bucks. It's almost impossible to tell that they're bad, so changing it is the only way to know for sure.
