where the fan fuse should be so they was running without a fuse the fan worked like this. So I looked in the relay box and pulled the fan relays and under the relays it was melted. What would cause this to happen. She have a 1990 buick riviera

they were being super cheap. only reason it doesnt run still when the car is off is because that circuit is probably only hot when the key is in the on position.

basically, the relay melted down and blew the fuse so they just went to the feed side on the fuse and stuck a wire in there and went straight to the fan effectively bypassing the fan relay.

this is bad. the fan will eventually burn out as it'll be running constantly. also, it might burn out the a/c fan circuit if the car only has a single large fan instead of dual fans.

basically, just go to the parts store and get the proper fuse in a fuse packet for $3 and get the correct relay for $15 and replace both, remove the wire, and see if the fan works by then just cranking the car up and letting it idle until up to operating temp and see if the fan kicks on.

If you put the new stuff on and then say...the fuse immediately blows on you. then you have a short in the circuit somewhere...which more than likely is from the fan itself. it could be dragging and pulling more load than it should...which is why the relay melted in the first place. It just hasnt completely gone bad yet is why the hotwire method is working for the cheapos that did that....fans dont usually cost THAT much.

Hello.

Short in the orginal fan caused the wires to melt. so they repaced it and never fixed the relay box. they ran a wire to another power source. this should fixed. or put a fuseable link on it.

Im pretty honest so if it had damage i would call the police andgive them everything. ( dont leave a note people can get you in a lot of trouble for leaveing the scene of a crime etc. for just leaveing a note always call the cops. on the other hand if i looked at their car and there was no dammage id drive away. i would be doing them a favor. a lot of people over stress about their cars. EX: my mother friend had just bought this brand new pontiac i dont know what kind but it was nice and expensive nad i came in the house and told her that i had seen someone back into her car leave a note and drive away, She was fumeing mad she kept looking all over for the dammage and couldnt find any. this just goes to prove my point that if i had left a note on a car with no damage i would ruin someones day when thay could of just been happy left alone

typical GM i had a 1984 and 1989 chevy pickup trucks. and both had melted fuse boxes...you need a mechanic to replace box/fusible links and whatever else burnt up...or leave it alone if its working..
