Brakes problem
1999 Ford Mustang V8 Two Wheel Drive Manual 140000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
I am attempting to replace the caliper on the rear of my mustang. When I try to put the caliper over the brake pads, it is very TIGHT, and it goes on crooked, I'm afraid to put it into too much of a bind out of fear of damaging somthing. Does anyone have any tips I could use? IS it normally this hard to put the caliper back on?

Putting a new caliper on is a tight job. Use a large C clamp to compress the brake piston (the part that presses the brake pad to the disk). Once you do that place the caliper on the assembly and tighten the proper bolts. The wheel should spin but it may not spin allot freely until the pad has worn thin a little.

* Also, before you hit the road be sure to tap and ride the brake a little in a parking lot so the brake fluid can equalize from the installation of the new brakes.

* Update* Find out where is it exactly leaking from. If it is from the caliper hose connection make sure the hose is not cracked or damaged. If it is ok then try some new copper bands, they will hold tighter then the old ones.

make sure to push the piston all the way into the caliper by using a large C clamp or a purpose made caliper tool, and that the new pad does not have any unecessary shims, look at the old pad for comparison. it is normal for a little drag to be there but the calliper should not have to go in tigth

Like others have reported, that is maximum in all probability that it has a 7.5 if the vehicle grew to become right into a V6. besides the shown fact that, in case you're able to desire to visually be certain no be counted if that could be a 7.5 or an 8.8, see the "source" link.

If you don't have a C-clamp, use a large screwdriver handle and SLOWLY press the cylinder down........

I've never used a c-clamp and as long as you go slowly ,it should be ok.
