2008-09-05 11:14:18 UTC
Hey.. I changed my oil yesterday using oil that recommended by my cars owners manual. also i put in some oil treatment by STP to help protect against engine ware, and it says it suitable for all cars. It reduces oil consumption and protech engine parts.. it also say use every oil change.. now this stuff is pritty think. alot thinker then the oil.. i changed the oil and drover my car around for about 30 mins, when pulling back into my driveway i noticed antifreeze/coolent coming out of the drain holes on the side of the reserve tank, where you would put the coolant into if you where to full it up . thats the only place it is comming out of and the level to the cool tank is emply.. oil appears find.. look like no coolant leaded to the oil and oil level appears not to have droped.. it am sure i didnt put to much oil in. if anyone know anything please help, thanks!

STP just makes your oil thicker, which isn't necessary unless the engine is worn out. It shouldn't make a big difference except in a car designed for very light oil, like a Ford Focus. In any case, be sure you don't run out of coolant. If you have to drive the car, check the coolant every few miles.

I can think of three possibilities:

1. A leak in the coolant reserve tank--I've never seen holes in the side of the reserve tank. Are you sure they are supposed to be there?

2. Engine is running hot and boiling over. This could be due to low oil, or a clogged radiator.

3. Exhaust leak into the coolant due to a blown head gasket.

It's a little tricky to tell the difference between 2 and 3, because a head gasket may only leak part of the time, or the engine may overhead after it has lost coolant. If your radiator is clogged, a good flush may fix the problem. If the head gasket is blown, it's a major repair. There are stop leak products for head gaskets, but I would only use them to get a few hundred more miles out of a junker.

Derrick- Just for the record, this is one of many reasons I don't use the Quick Lube Shops, (Jiffy Lube, Quick Tune, Snappy Lube or Oil Can Henry's). I used to work in a Snappy Lube. These places have a gurantee that say if your oil change takes longer than 20 minutes, your next one is free. Yeah, uh after the "1,2,3 Cork It" routine that we had to do I decided it was time to relocate myself to a Chevrolet Dealership and remain there. Needless to say, I can sleep at night knowing my customers are not coming back upset and mad because their engine decided it was tired of dirty oil. I am going to have to side with the other guy and say its either a double gasket, (which happens when the moron in the pit does not check the filter mount). Or they installed the incorrect filter on your vehicle. In some cases, the incorrect filter can cause a back pressure problem that will pop the diaphragm in the oil pressure sensor. Personally, I would have them NOT do any more work on your vehicle and take that baby to Dodge and have them take a good look at your vehicle. This way, any damage that "Jiffy Jack's Lube Shack" did to your vehicle can be covered by them and their deep pockets. Good Luck!

I guess you had a reason to want to use stp, however it makes you oil thick like grease in low pressure areas, anyway, it has nothing to do with your coolant, and what you need to do is fill your coolant level up to the level its suposed to be at, then monitor it. You might just be low and didnt realize it before (You werent looking).

First thing. Don't waste any more money on STP. It doesn't do what they say it will. The leakage of coolant is unrelated to the oil change. You either have a leaking tank or hose.

if you pour some STP into a jar with your oil in % relation = to qt. amount and mix.it does blend just fine.as for your coolant.you might have noticed it if you would have looked before.
